Day three was all about food, so it seems. Having worked up quite the appetite at City Museum, we ventured over to another St. Louis institution - Donut Drive-In, which wins the vote for best donuts on Route 66. It's not surprising when you consider the same family recipe has been used since the 1950's. I ordered a jelly-filled, which I ate on the spot, and a chocolate and cream cheese for the road. Both were light, airy and sinfully delicious. Since we were already on a junk-food breakfast kick, we drove a few blocks over to Ted Drewes Frozen Custard, where we sampled their famous "concrete" custard, frozen so solid they turn the cup upside down to prove it. We ended the day in Tulsa, OK, where we indulged in dinner at the Palace Cafe, one of the city's finest dining establishments.
